This recipe has got to be over a 100 years old. My grandmother made this when my mom was growing up. Then my mom made it for her family, now I make it and my husband loves it.

Ingredients For grandma mccredy's applesauce cake

  • 1 c
    white sugar
  • 1/2 c
    vegetable shortening
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda , put with 1 tablespoon of hot water to dissolve
  • 1 c
    unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1
    pinch salt
  • 1 3/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    raisins

How To Make grandma mccredy's applesauce cake

    Preheat oven 350.In a bowl with a electric mixer add sugar and shortening mix together until nice and creamy. Take the dissolved baking soda and mix it with the applesauce, add to creamed mixture,mix together. In a seperate bowl mix the dry ingredients together then add to creamed mixture, mix well then add raisins, mix together. Put in a greased and flour 8 by 8 pan, bake for 45 min. or till done.
