Ingredients For bavarian apple torte

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 pkg. cream cheese, 8 oz., softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 3 granny smith apples, peeled and sliced, 4 cups
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds

How To Make bavarian apple torte

    Beat butter and 1/3 cup sugar in small mixing bowl at medium speed with mixer til fluffy.gradually add flour, beating til mixture is blended. Stir in 1/4 tsp. vanilla. Mixture will be slightly crumbly.

    Press pastry into bottom and 1 1/2 inches up sides of a lightly greased 9 inch springform pan.

    Beat cream cheese and 1/4 cup sugar at medium speed til smooth. add egg and 1/2 tsp. vanilla, beating well. Spread filling evenly over pastry.

    Mix 1/3 cup sugar, cinnamon and apples, tossing lightly. Arrange apple slices over cream cheese mixture; sprinkle with almonds

    Bake at 400 for 40 minutes. Serve warm or chilled. Top with creme fraiche, sour cream or ice cream if desired. Makes one 9 inch torte You can find creme fraiche packaged in small tubs near specialty cheeses at a supermarket deli.
