Ingredients For irish soda bread

  • 1/2 c
    raisins
  • 1/2 c
    hot brewed black tea
  • 2 tsp
    caraway seeds
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 3/4 c
    wheat flour
  • 3/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    milk or buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    oil

How To Make irish soda bread

    Heat oven to 425 degrees.Oil a pie pan or baking sheet.Combine raisins and tea and let stand 10 minutes.Drain.

    crush caraway seeds to release fragrance.Whisk flour,wheat flour,baking soda and salt in a bowl and stir in raisins and caraway seeds.

    Combine buttermilk,brown sugar and oil then stir in slowly into flour mixture just till moistened.

    Knead dough several times on lightly floured surface. Shape into a ball and place in pan. Flatten to a height of 1 1/2 to 2 inches.

    dust lightly with flour and make a criss cross slash on top of dough.

    Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
