I don't know what the fuss is about regarding this icing. Try it before you knock it. Clem I tried yours, although it was good, it doesn't even begin to compare to this original version of this cake. Give the original a try before you knock it and change it. Do you like peanut butter fudge? Well the icing on this cake is very similar to a softer icing style version of peanut butter fudge with a fabulous cake attached. If you like peanut butter fudge and you like cake - then what's not to like about this cake? Don't let me mislead you about the icing however, remember, I didn't say it was peanut butter fudge only similar. The icing is not as thick as the peanut butter fudge, it is very much softer, not as thick on the cake as a piece of fudge would be of course. It looks thick but is just perfect on the cake. If the amount of icing on the cake bothers you then don't put as much on. But I think you would like it as is.
I will make this most of all because I LOVE peanut butter, but I have to say the icing looks way to thick for me to enjoy. Maybe I will try to thin it down or not use at all. I am sure this cake would be just as good w/o it.
