Contest Winner Sparks Up Fun and Friendship at Blue Ribbon Showcase Event

Tue, Feb 14, 2012
There are times in life when we get blown back on our heels at just how very blessed we are. One of those moments came recently while sitting over dinner with Flour Power contest winner Melissa Sperka.
With a million dollar smile and an effervescent personality, Melissa is the latest Just A Pinch member to take the reins as star of her very own Just A Pinch Blue Ribbon Showcase event. The showcase - part of her Grand Prize package which also included a trip for two to Nashville and a $1,000 shopping spree at the Viking Kitchen Store - was held in front of an enthusiastic, capacity crowd.
All in attendance were treated to Melissa's easy conversation and humor as she demonstrated the preparation of her prize-winning Caramel, Chocolate and Almond Gooey Butter Cake recipe. Questions and laughs were frequent as the crowd watched and munched on a menu of Blue Ribbon favorites that included:
Monterey Jack Cheese Soup
Polly Sizemore - East Bernstadt, KY
Grilled Chicken Sandwiches with Cilantro Lime Mayo
Lauren Mitchell - Portland, OR
Orzo Salad
Lindsey McCue - Los Angeles, CA
Beef Tenderloin Crostini
Sherri Williams - Danville, VA
One of the most memorable highlights of the afternoon - at least for this sappy member of the Kitchen Crew - was when it was revealed that Melissa had discovered her long lost twin sister through Just A Pinch... namely, the day's emcee and previous contest winner Sherri Logan Williams! They appear to have everything in common except actual DNA, and it was a joy to see the dynamic duo in action. You would think they have been friends for years... Talk about double trouble!
A big hello and thank you to all of the wonderful members who came out to celebrate Melissa and share in some good old-fashioned food and fellowship. Bringing folks together over a plate of home-cookin' is what we enjoy more than anything and its your bright spirits that make it all worthwhile.

I love this, Sherri! You were an off the hook MC, a complete natural! It's true, we immediately bonded, it was phenomenal! :) I loved spending time with Sherri, Roy, Janet, Hugh and Sandy on Friday night, [I don't think Sherri, myself or Janet took a breath the whole night!!] and all of the rest of the JAP Crew on Saturday. Not to mention, another former winner, Missy, and all of the other kind JAP members who attended. It was truly a warm and fuzzy experience. A heartfelt and sincere thank you to all! :)

Awwww...how cool for Janet to acknowledge ur new found friendship. I bet she had a ball with Sherri & Melissa in the same room. It's nice to be here on JAP for the recipes and friendship..but when that carries over into our real world and a true friendship bond is made..well, thats just plain awesome...I am so excited to finally get to meet Sherri, my sister from another mister, next month in Florida. hahaha..and that goes for the other girls who are comming too.

The best part of this story is the reuniting of the sisters! In my own family there are 7 of us that were separated for over 40 years due to the death of parents. About 5 years ago we found each other via the internet and a lot of sleuthing and had a reunion. We have all been in close contact since then even though we are separated by several states. So needless to say I am particularly effected by your story!
