Clean eating is essentially using ingredients in their most natural form. No preservatives, refined sugars, etc. Integrating whole grains not only in breads, but in unexpected places too! When using a store bought ingredient for a recipe, checking labels to be sure of hidden additives. The least amount of ingredients is best. I want to hear how creative we can all be and turn out some fantastic dishes that are CLEAN! I know it can be difficult to find things like jarred salsa, peanut butter, etc., and although homemade is BEST, we all know that sometimes we just need some convenience in the kitchen. So, I also want this to be a sight where we can exchange product names that we come across in our supermarkets. This is actually a fun way to be creative in the kitchen and a great way to introduce new flavors and discuss nutrition with the kids.
I added a recipe today. Depression Cake. It has no eggs, milk, dairy or soy. it can be made with coffee, water, or juice. It has fruit in it, with alternatives. If you want to use a non-refined sugar, try it. the recipe does not beat up to use sugar as a structure of the cake. Don't want to use white flour, use whole wheat white, or another. And as an adaptable cake, will satisfy most requirements for those wanting to avoid the eight most common allergies. If you do not want to use nuts, use sunflower seeds, or others, etc.
Also, it is GF adaptable too. Vegan and Vegetarian.
Just a moist, old-fashioned spice cake. I hope you enjoy!
I'm so excited to find this group. After years of being in excrutiating pain, liver disease, diabetes, neuropathy, etc. I started eating cleaner & feel better than I have ever felt before. I love to cook & have been transforming comfort food into healthier cleaner food. I blog about what I have discovered that damages my health & what makes me feel better. 4newtons.blogspot.com/...hy%%20recipe
I was scrolling around in jap and found this group, am so interested in eating clean, since I have A condition called diverticulosis, it is best if I avoid certain foods, like skin on chicken, fruit peels, seeds, And to eat lots of fiber to keep bowels moving..recently in my neighborhood there has been a mini war against GMO foods..it wrecks your guts by cutting the lining, so diseases and health problems , like weight gain from inability to digest food properly occur,
This brings to mind the statements, America is fatter! I know I have gained so much weight, from 100lbs most of my life to near150 now..
My husband & I both try to eat more healthly with juicing, eating or organic and as much live food as we can. However, we go back and forth. I can say this when we are "eating clean" we are much healthier and happier too. Hopefully, this group will encourage me to stay focused but I must admit it is hard sometimes. I do love my sweets and savory dishes too. :-) Thanks for creating this group Jennifer. Kim
I try to buy peanut butter without sugar, salt or anything else in it, but I don't like the thick natural peanut butter in the jar (that has the glop of oil on the top). None of the grocery stores near me have peanut butter that you can grind fresh...but I found the store brand of natural peanut butter at Big Y that has only peanuts and a little salt in it...and, no oil on top.
Cinnamon Steel Cut Oats with salted peanut butter and chopped apples.
Just follow cooking directions on oats, adding 1Tbs cinnamon to water. Mix in 1Tbs all natural peanut butter and top with one whole apple, chopped. Great way to get fiber and protein into your morning!
