using last season's tomatoes

I used mine in a simple red pasta sauce. basically a bland, weak spaghetti sauce. Then I get to split it up with friends and family.
They use it on pastas, meatloaf, stews... after they've put their own touches and twists to it of course!

Handy for the tomatoe gardener

I found this VERY handy for those freezing tomatoes
Courtesy of the Peterson Farm in Georgia,

I found this handy tomato conversion chart for recipes grown from your garden:

2 1/2 pounds fresh tomatoes equals 3 cups chopped and drained fresh tomatoes. 1 (16-oz) can equals 2 cups drained tomatoes or 1 cup undrained tomatoes. 1 (28-oz) can equals 3 cups undrained or 2 to 2 1/2 cups drained tomatoes. 1 (35-oz) can equals 3 cups undrained or 2 to 2 1/2 cups drained tomatoes. 25 to 30 cherry tomatoes equals 2 cups chopped tomatoes. 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste equals 3/4 cup. An average bushel of tomatoes weighs about 53 lb (25 kg). When quartered and canned, this quantity of tomatoes will yield 15 to 20 – 1 large jar. You’ll need 2 ½ to 3 lb (1.2 to 1.4 kg) fresh tomatoes per 1 large mason jar.

Tomatoe lots!

I ve got a lot tomatoes. If freeze them how should i begin? Should I just put them in jars? Do the jars have to be boiled in the canning pot or just SUPER sterile Like real clean. Can I just toss the tomaoes in bags and freeze?

Lasagne Gardens

Hello Everyone,

Mu wife and I have had our first season of growing veg for the table in separate, layered beds, containing layers of soil, newspaper, compost and peat. The worms are supposed to do the "Digging-in" so my back should be saved. We have had some sugar-snap peas, lettuces and strawberries and I am still waiting for celery, onions, garlic and vegetable spaghetti, but I don't hold out much hope...

We have been here for 15 years and only mowed the lawn before now, but with the cost of everything going through the roof, we decided to augment out food bills by growing some vegetables. We are pure novices at this and any help anyone can offer would be gratefully received.

New Group

I though it would be neat to start a group where we can gather and share recipes that call for whole grains. Adding more whole grains to our diet is so important. I use freshly ground flour and I know there has to be more out there that do too or have the desire to. Please join us and share some of your best whole grain recipes.

It is called Whole Grains
