How to Make Rosettes from Royal Icing

Prepare bakery-quality cupcakes, cakes, and cookies at home by creating beautiful rosettes with royal icing.

What You’ll Need

  • Royal icing
  • Gel food colors for rosettes and leaves
  • Piping bag
  • Wilton 21 star tip
  • Wilton 352 leaf tip

How to Make Rosettes With Royal Icing

1. Make your favorite royal icing recipe. Place in two bowls. Tint one pink and the other green for leaves.


2. Mix well and thicken with additional powdered sugar. You want the royal icing to be thick, but not too thick it can’t pipe. If it gets too thick, thin with a drop of water at a time. Cover until using.


3. Fill a piping bag fitted with the star tip with pink icing. Start at the center to make a swirl in a swoop.


4. Make sure to end on the outside.


5. Use a toothpick to smooth tip.

6. Place green royal icing into a piping bag fitted with the leaf tip. Create a small leaf.


7. The finished product.


8. Let dry for several hours.


9. Decorate!
